Policy and Systems Change

At MFSA, we believe that real change doesn’t just happen in schools or service systems—it happens in policy rooms, too. Our policy work focuses on making education, disability services, and child welfare systems more inclusive, equitable, and accountable to the families they’re meant to serve.

We work on local and state-level advocacy to:

  • Promote disability justice and accessibility in schools and public systems

  • Protect the rights of parents with disabilities

  • Advance inclusive education policies and family-centered practices

  • Uplift the voices of families from Greater Minnesota and rural North Dakota who are often left out of statewide conversations

Our approach is grounded in lived experience, and we believe the people most affected by policy should be the ones shaping it. We offer advocacy training, collaborate with coalitions, and help families understand how to make their voices heard in decision-making spaces.
